September on Fort Myers Beach: Slow Season? Not This Year.
September has always had a certain reputation on Fort Myers Beach.
The crowds thin out. Traffic gets easier. Restaurant tables are easier to find. Locals start joking that we finally have the island back to ourselves.
Traditionally, it's the month when Fort Myers Beach catches its breath between summer vacations and the return of our seasonal visitors.
But somebody apparently forgot to tell September 2026.
Because this month, Fort Myers Beach isn't slowing down.
We're talking offshore powerboat racing, nationally recognized songwriters, sandbar parties, community gatherings, live music, island adventures—and plenty of local businesses ready to welcome you.
Maybe "slow season" needs a new name.
The Roar Returns to Fort Myers Beach
September gets loud in a hurry when Roar Offshore returns September 10–13.
Offshore powerboat racing brings high-speed action back to the Gulf, along with race teams, boating enthusiasts and spectators ready for one of the most exciting weekends of the year.
What's Up FMB is proud to be supporting Roar Offshore and helping rally community support behind an event that brings people—and valuable business—to the island during September.
For a few days, the sound of waves rolling onto shore is going to have some serious competition.
Music, Mixers & a Little Nauti Fun
Once the engines quiet down, September keeps rolling.
On September 16, What's Up FMB members will gather at Yo! Taco at the Lani Kai Island Resort for our Fall Member Mixer. It's a chance for business owners, nonprofits, individual members and community supporters to connect, catch up and build relationships with the people helping shape the future of Fort Myers Beach.
Then comes one of Southwest Florida's most anticipated music events.
Island Hopper Songwriter Fest runs September 18–27, bringing talented singer-songwriters and the stories behind their music to intimate venues throughout Southwest Florida—including Fort Myers Beach.
There's something special about hearing live music on the island.
Maybe it's the salt air.
Maybe it's the sunset.
Or maybe songs simply sound better in flip-flops.
And September 19–20 brings a completely different kind of island experience with Nauti Nation's Fort Myers Beach Takeover, featuring a Saturday sandbar gathering at Big Carlos Pass followed by Sunday's Nauti Trail Bar Crawl.
Boats. Music. Food. Friends.
Not exactly sounding like "slow season," is it?

Here's the other reason we love September.
You can slow down enough to actually explore.
Try the restaurant you've been meaning to visit. Wander into a locally owned shop you've driven past a dozen times. Rent a kayak or paddleboard. Book a fishing charter. Catch some live music. Stay an extra night.

And rediscover the island.
